Davenport reaches deal for $110M land-based casino

Associated Press

---- — DAVENPORT (AP) — The city council in Davenport has approved plans to develop a $110 million casino and hotel project along Interstate 80 under a deal that would close its riverboat casino downtown.

The council voted 10-0 on Tuesday to approve a plan that will allow a group led by casino operator Dan Kehl to purchase the Rhythm City riverboat casino from the Isle of Capri for $51 million.

That casino will eventually close, and Kehl’s Scott County Casino LLC group has agreed to build and open a new land-based casino and hotel within two or three years.

A casino along the busy section of the interstate is expected to draw more customers than the one on the river, which has hosted gambling for more than 20 years.
