Kirk Gallbladder Removal

FILE - In this Aug. 19, 2013 file photo, Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill. speaks in Chicago. Senator Kirk underwent surgery Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 to have his gallbladder removed in Chicago. The Highland Park Republican's office released a statement noting Kirk underwent surgery after experiencing stomach pains over the weekend and doctors determined that he had gallstones. A spokeswoman at Northwestern Memorial Hospital told The Associated Press the senator was resting comfortably early Monday afternoon. The 54-year-old Kirk returned to Congress last year after suffering a stroke in January 2012 that left him partially paralyzed on his left side. (AP Photo/M. Spencer Green, File)
