CLINTON — An Erie, Ill., man died this morning as the result of injuries he sustained at Clinton’s Archer Daniels Midland plant Wednesday.

“All of us at ADM are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague, John Hager,” ADM spokeswoman Karla Miller said this morning in a statement.

Hager was injured by an electrical arc flash burn that occurred while he was doing repair work on an electrical system at the Clinton plant, Miller said.

Clinton Fire Department reports indicate firefighters were called at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday and that Hager was airlifted out of Clinton. He was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the Hager family,” Miller said. “ADM representatives are in contact with the family and are offering their support.”

Miller said ADM has notified the proper authorities and is investigating the accident. ADM officials said no one else was injured in the accident.
