Bettendorf Republican John Archer has announced his intention to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.
Archer has filed paperwork with federal elections officials creating a committee to seek the GOP nomination.
Archer works as a senior legal counsel at John Deere and is a member of the Pleasant Valley School Board.
Loebsack moved from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City so he could seek another term in office after redistricting tossed him in the same district with Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley. A voice message left at Loebsack’s campaign office was not immediately returned.
Archer says he’s been actively traveling around the district to gain support for his bid to challenge Loebsack.
The redistricting plan approved by the legislature during this past session, lumped the Clinton area with the southeast portion of Iowa, moving the area’s representation away from the northern part of the state.
