About a thousand Ashford grads will descend upon Clinton this weekend, with thousands more friends and family in tow. The university’s annual online student graduation ceremony will take place this Saturday, and is projected to be the largest in Ashford’s history.
Students will be given the chance to show off their school and Clinton over the weekend. Graduates and attendees will attend an open house Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the campus.
Ashford expects over 6,000 visitors to the area for the weekend event, generating more than $650,000 in local economic impact, according to calculations by the Clinton Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The graduation ceremony will take place Saturday at 1 p.m at the university’s new athletic complex.
The keynote address will be delivered by Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, America’s first black female fighter pilot.
According to a release from Ashford, Armour launched a successful company, VAI Consulting and Training, LLC, following her military career.
According to statistics compiled by the university, a total of 1,378 students will be recognized at the ceremony.
Of those, 902 are receiving Bachelor’s degrees, 421 are receiving Master’s degrees and 55 will receive Associate’s degrees.
It is estimated that 49 of 50 states will be represented.
