CAMANCHE — Commander Tim Petersen and the Camanche Memorial Day Celebration Steering Committee have announced the Camanche VFW Post 9664 with the American Legion Post 734 will host their annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at 10 a.m., Monday, May 25, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. The public is invited to attend. Those attending should bring their own lawn chairs, as seating will not be provided. In case of rain, the observance will be held in the Camanche High School gym.

Mayor Jim Robertson will give the welcome remarks. Special speaker for the Memorial Day address will be Lance Corporal Paul J. Williams, U.S. Marine Corp, Retired. Camanche Middle School student Jacob Peasley will present the Gettysburg address. Additional special recitations will be given.

The parade of flags will be lifted at 7 a.m., Saturday at Rose Hill. Flags will be flown until 6 p.m., May 25, weather permitting. Everyone is welcome to help raise and lower the flags. More than 135 memorial flags are raised.

Anyone interested in helping, should contact the VFW Post, any member veteran, or the Memorial Day Steering Committee. A final preparation meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the VFW Hall, 211 Ninth Ave., Camanche.
