CAMANCHE — Entries are needed for several sporting competitions being held in conjunction with the upcoming Camanche Days celebration.

The Camanche Days Golf Tournament will be Aug. 12 at Valley Oaks Golf Club. The competition will be a four-person best shot tournament and there is a 64-team limit.

Entry fees are $60 per team and must be paid with the returned entry form. Green fees must be paid to Valley Oaks on the day of the tournament. Non-member fees are $26 for 18 holes and carts are required for all participants. The competition will feature six flights with equal pay out for the top three teams in each flight.

The Second Annual Camanche Days Bag Board Tournament will be held next to the tennis courts at Platt Park on Aug. 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Bag board is a game similar to horseshoes, with opposite goal boards, where competitors throw bean bags attempting to get the bags in designated holes or at least on the board.

Teams consist of two players each. Contestants must be 14 years of age or older and can compete in the mixed gender or the open divisions. There is a $10 entry fee per person per division. Entry forms and fees must be postmarked no later than Aug. 3. The contest is a double elimination and cash prizes will be paid for the top three finishing teams in each division. The Camanche Days/Realty One Tennis tournament will be held Aug. 9 through 11 at the Camanche High School tennis courts. The competition features adult and junior divisions in both singles and doubles play. Participants must provide a new can of Wilson or Penn balls with each entry. The entry fee is $15 per person and entries must be received by Aug. 7. Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place finishers in the juniors competitions. The Camanche Days Softball tournament will be held Aug. 10 through 12 at the Platt Park ball diamond and the Low Moor field. The competition is an unlimited arc slow pitch tournament and each team must supply its own .44-core balls.

The Second Annual Camanche Days Catfish Tournament will be held Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. Participants may sign up on the morning of the tournament. Entrants can sign in at 5 a.m. at the Swan Slough boat ramp and boats will depart at 6 a.m. The tournament will continue through 1 p.m. and teams may consist of two people. A third person will be allowed in the boat only if they are age 16 or younger, or age 65 or older. Fish only can be caught using the rod and reel method and a maximum of 10 fish per boat will be weighed in. The entry fee is $45 per team. First-, second- and third-place finishers will receive cash prizes based on an 80-percent payback.

The Team Weber Powerlifting Push/Pull Meet is making a comeback this year due to popular demand. The meet will be Aug. 11 beginning at 1 p.m. in the Platt Park entertainment tent. Weigh-ins will be held from 10 a.m. to noon that morning. Awards will be presented for first through third places in each class. Men’s weight classes begin at 105 pounds and women’s classes begin at 95 pounds. Lifting category fees are set at $40 for the push/pull, $35 for bench only and $35 for trapbar only. High school students will be charged $15 for each event. Entries received after Aug. 1 will be charged $10 extra. For more information, contact Bob Weber Jr. at 259-8695.

The Camanche Classic Walk/Run will be held again this year. The main race will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 11 near Imperial Lanes. The course for this race is a flat, fast in-and-back loop along the Mississippi River and through the major part of town. Entries will be accepted the day of the Classic for $18 with check-in beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Many Camanche residents set up along the route with refreshments for racers to pick up as they come by. Soft drinks, fruit, homemade cookies, ice cream and more will be waiting at the finish line. Cash and door prizes will be awarded at the post-race party held at Imperial Lanes. Showers are available after the race at the high school.

A half-mile kid’s fun run will begin at 7:30 a.m. before the main race with check in beginning at 6:30 a.m. Two bicycles will be given away. All pre-registered entrants for both races will receive a T-shirt and shirts likely will be available for purchase the day of the race.
