No names are being released yet in a Sunday afternoon accident in which a 2-year-old child was struck by a vehicle.

The Clinton Police Department and the Clinton Fire Department responded at 1:37 p.m. to the 400 block of North Third Street for a reported accident between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to a press release from the police department, officers arriving on the scene found a 2-year-old child who had been struck by a northbound vehicle.

The child was transported by the Clinton Fire Department to Mercy Medical Center and was later transported by MedForce to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The Traffic Crash Investigations Unit of the Clinton Police Department is investigating this accident.

At press time, the names of the driver and the 2-year-old pedestrian were not being released and the status of the child was not available through the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
