CLINTON — A Clinton man has been sentenced to 15 days in jail on an assault causing injury charge.

Nicolo Cimino, 40, of 542 Breezy Point, was sentenced last week in connection with the Sept. 20 incident. A jury had earlier found him guilty of the charge.

According to court documents, Cimino was charged after his 17-year-old girlfriend told police that Cimino came home around 4 a.m. that day and they started to argue. She said that she tried to leave, but he said he wanted her phone. When she refused to give him her phone, Cimino slapped her in the face, she reported. She said she tried to leave and Cimino punched her in the face causing her to fall.

She then got up, punched Cimino and tried to call 911. Cimino then tried to take the phone so she put it back in her pocket. Cimino grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the ground and choked her, the teen said. After more arguing about the phone, Cimino punched the girl in the face again, at one point threw the phone at her and told her if she called police she was “dead,” the documents say.

Cimino also was fined $500 and a no-contact order was put in place.
