CLINTON — The employees at the Kwik Star store at 2321 LincolnWay, were presented an award by Special Olympics Iowa on Thursday morning.

This store was recognized for having the top sales of SOIA icons from Nov. 1 to Nov. 15. These icons were sold in all Iowa stores to benefit SOIA. Earlier this year, the Kwik Star stores became a statewide partner with SOIA, which includes all Kwik Star stores in northeast Iowa.

“Kwik Star is very pleased to be a part of such a great program. We are very humble to be a part of it,” said Jenny Frandsen, account representative for Kwik Star/Kwik Trip stores.

President and CEO of TTSOIA, Mark Reed, and SOIA athlete and 2009 World Winter Games medalist Ken Essex Jr., of Davenport, were at the Kwik Star to present the workers with the award and thank them for their contribution.

Essex has competed in several SOIA competitions over the years. This year he placed fourth in one event and won a silver medal in another at the World Winter Games in Idaho. He was one of five competitors from Iowa. People from 60 countries competed at the games.

Reed said on the behalf of the more than 11,350 SOIA athletes, he was happy to recognize the Clinton store for its SOIA icons sales accomplishment.

All of the proceeds from the icons help SOIA continue to provide sports training and competitions at no cost across the state.
