Rules for the Clinton RV park will be explicitly defined for campers when they descend upon the park this summer.
The Rules and Regulations committee on Tuesday reviewed a draft of the rules for the park, which will apply also to the marina because both will be managed under the same contract the city will enter into this spring. The proposed ordinance removes ambiguity about registration and rules previously criticized by committee members.
“On the little ticket envelopes there were rules written on there. But when it comes to enforcement of those little rules on there, you can say ‘OK you violated a rule, we can throw you out.’ But with these if something does go completely haywire, you get to actually write them a ticket now,” City Attorney Jeff Farwell said.
Campers must pay before parking, the ordinance stipulates. The registration must be displayed in plain view on the dashboard or on the campsite post and expires at 4 p.m. on the last day of the permit. This check-out time could be changed based on what the new marina operator would like.
Only one vehicle will be allowed per camping site and no one who is not registered to the campsite will be permitted after 10 p.m., the new rules stipulate. Committee members also moved to include a rule that would limit use of the pull-through spaces in the park to RVs longer than 35 feet.
The proposed ordinance goes on to detail the rules involving animals and alcoholic beverages in the park.
The draft presented Tuesday called for camping to be limited to 17 days per calendar month, but Parks Superintendent Tom Krogman expressed concern about this restriction limiting potential customers. Last year, the City Council increased the cost per night to $20 from $16 in hopes that the park will start generating income for the city.
“I’d like to leave that wide open because we do have seasonal campers,” Krogman said.
Committee members agreed to remove the date restriction.
The ordinance moved through the committee without objection, sending it on to the Committee of the Whole.
