Clinton County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Eric Van Lancker and Clinton County Supervisor Jill Davisson will host two public meetings to receive input on a plan to reduce the number of voting precincts in the county.
The opportunity to reprecinct occurs following the recent census. Davisson and Van Lancker believe reprecincting can provide efficiencies in the county’s elections process, leading to potential savings for the county. Precincts involved could include: Sharon/Lost Nation, Brookfield, Bloomfield/Delmar, Grant, Olive/Calamus, Welton, Washington, Eden/Low Moor, Camanche, Elk River/Andover and Hampshire.
Davisson is the chairwoman on a committee of precinct election officials and political party representatives, with informational support from Van Lancker.
The committee will meet this week to determine the best recommendation for the Clinton County Board of Supervisors to consider. These recommendations will be presented at the two informational meetings.
A meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Grossman Hall in Delmar. A second meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in conference room B at the Clinton County Administration building. A formal public hearing will need to be held in September to change the precinct descriptions in the county’s code of ordinances.
The county’s plan is due to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office by Oct. 14.
