DEWITT — Dolyn “Bud” J. Runge, 88, DeWitt, died Monday afternoon, March 2, 2009, at the Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge.

Bud was born Dolyn Julius Runge, October 11, 1920, in Gambril, Iowa, the son of Julius and Elma (Hesse) Runge. He married Maxine Kirchhoff March 26, 1938, in Tipton, Iowa. He worked in the parts department at DeWitt Motor Sales, Peters Motor Company, DeWitt, and later, Lujacks Auto Plaza in Davenport until retirement in 1975.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238, DeWitt. Bud had his own band and enjoyed all types of music as well as card and board games. He loved to tinker in his garage and could fix anything.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 71 years, Maxine, Eldridge, Iowa; children, Charles (Marilyn) Runge, Sunnyvale, California, Sharon (Jerry) Pratt, Long Beach, California, and Marilyn “Cookie” (Allen) Block, Grand Mound; ten grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd “Buzz” Runge, DeWitt, and Robert Runge, California; and his sister, Dorothy Farber, Melbourne, Florida.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roland Runge; and an infant brother.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, in the United Methodist Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Jeff Wartgow will officiate with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Pallbearers will be Jeoff Block, Jim Block, Jay Block, Jan Block, Jay Runge and Tom O’Connell.
