BETTENDORF — Dorothy H. (Lasack) Welsh, 83, died on Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

A celebration of life Mass will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Welton, Iowa, with the Reverend David Brownfield as celebrant. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Petersville. Family will greet friends and family at Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa, on Friday, March 20, 2009, from 4 until 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. and a prayer service will follow the visitation at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be her 8 grandchildren, Victor, Craig, Lance, Lucas, Chad, Tracy, David and Kristin.

Memorials may be go to the family to be given to charities of their choice.

Dorothy Lasack was born on July 17th, 1925, in Oxford Junction, the daughter of Henry and Christina (Landa) Lasack. She graduated from Lost Nation High School and later married Leo Welsh in Lost Nation. Together they farmed in rural DeWitt while raising 6 children. Leo died on January 8th, 1965. Dorothy then moved to DeWitt and was self employed as an industrial housekeeper cleaning for several businesses and families in the area. Dorothy was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Parish in Welton, Iowa, where she was active on the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, baking and making strawberry jam for her family.

Those survivors left behind to celebrate Dorothy’s life are her 6 children, Shirley (Arnold) Curley, Oxford Junction, Iowa, Steve Welsh, DeWitt, Iowa, Susan (Gary) Sivertsen, DeWitt, Iowa, Stella (Dan) Knapper, DeWitt, Iowa, Barbara Welsh Kinkaid, Clinton, Iowa, and Mike Welsh, DeWitt, Iowa; her 10 grandchildren, Victor and Craig Curley, Lance and Lucas Sivertsen, Chad and Tracy Knapper, David and Kristin Kinkaid; 5 stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Alice) Lasack, Lost Nation; and a sister, Blanche Keegan, Maquoketa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Christina Lasack; her husband, Leo Welsh; a brother, Emil Lasack and a sister, Lula Horstmann.
