CLINTON — State drug charges against a Clinton man have been dismissed because he is being charged at the federal level.

Eddie Cosey, 31, 1522 Lincoln Way, was accused June 23 by Clinton police with conspiracy to deliver cocaine base, possession of cocaine base with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, violation of the drug tax stamp law and assault on a peace officer.

According to court records, Clinton police went to Motel 6, 1522 Lincoln Way at 8:49 p.m. June 22 to serve forfeiture paperwork on Eddie Cosey and another man.

Cosey ended up slamming into the door and a police officer was injured. Officers pushed the door open and Cosey was arrested for assault on a peace officer.

Police said they found a green leafy substance on the ground where Cosey walked to the police car. When Cosey was searched at the Clinton County Jail, officers found three more bags of suspected marijuana and also found more than 20 bags o an off-white rock-like substance weighing more than 10 grams in Cosey’s underpants, police reported.

Police said the green substance tested positive as marijuana and the while substance was determined to be cocaine.
