OLYMPIA, Wash. — Ellyne F. Greene died on March 6, 2009, surrounded by her family at St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia.

Ellyne was born on July 12, 1924, to John and Mary Lentz in Clinton, Iowa. She was raised in a strong Catholic family and she completed her schooling at St. Mary’s Catholic schools in Clinton.

She married James C. Greene on January 31, 1948, and they remained married for 33 years before he passed away in 1981.

Ellyne was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Lewis and Gene Lentz.

She is survived by her sister, Janie Rickerl of Clinton, Iowa; and her five children who are daughters, Rosie of Lacey, Claudette (Tom) of Rochester, Wa., and Shelly (Gene) from Fairbanks, Alaska; and sons, Jim (Geri) of Olympia, and Joe (Trish) from Tenino. Ellyne is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews from the Greene, Lentz and Rickerl families.

Ellyne’s life was totally centered on raising her family and being an absolute inspiration and rock for them all. Not only was she a loving mother to her own children, but over the years Ellyne welcomed many others into her heart and her home. Her strong character and loving spirit is something they will carry with them forever.

Activities enjoyed by Ellyne included the many family gatherings at her home, working in her yard and her weekly Saturday excursions with her long-time close neighborhood friends.

Ellyne’s family is eternally grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff of Thurston County Fire District 3, and from the doctors and nurses in the St. Peter’s Hospital Critical Care Unit.

A memorial service for Ellyne will be held at the Masonic Center, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
