CAMANCHE — An accidental fire Wednesday evening caused thousands of dollars of damage to a Camanche home.

The Camanche Fire Department was called shortly after 9 p.m. to a structure fire at 627 14th Place. Upon arrival, firefighters found the occupants had exited the residence, owned by Lynn Jamison.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly but remained on the scene for approximately 90 minutes to look for hot spots and wait for the utility company to arrive, as live wires were on the ground at the residence.

According to Acting Camanche Fire Chief Bob Alm, the fire was determined to have started in the area of an outside light fixture and is considered accidental. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $45,000.

The Camanche Fire Department responded with two engine companies, an ambulance and 17 firefighters. The fire department was assisted at the scene by the Camanche Police Department, Special Agent Jim Theil with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Mid-American Energy and Alliant Energy.
