A former Fulton High School teacher has pleaded guilty to three charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor and was sentenced to 180 days in jail.
Nicole Letcher, 26, pleaded guilty and was sentenced last week in Whiteside County Circuit Court.
In May, Letcher was charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student from December to May. Each charge was for each individual month that the criminal activity was alleged to have occurred. As a Class 2 felony, each charge could have resulted in a punishment of three to 14 years in prison.
Letcher pleaded guilty to three of the six counts and the other three were dismissed. Along with the six-month jail sentence, Letcher also will be required to serve four years of probation after her release.
At the time of her arrest, Letcher was suspended from the River Bend School District. At that time, Jane Bauer, the River Bend superintendent at that time, said the safety and well-being of the students was the top priority.
Because Letcher had already served 90 days in jail, she had met the terms of her sentencing and has been released.
