A Fulton building was deemed a total loss by the Fulton Fire Department following a Wednesday evening blaze.

Kent Nicolaysen, owner of the property at 4990 24th Ave., suffered minor burns to his left hand, and was transported to Mercy Medical Center by private vehicle for treatment.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Fulton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Nick’s Body Shop. According to a report issued by the department, firefighters encountered “heavy fire conditions” from the interior of the building. The fire was coming out of a 12-foot-wide overhead door.

The report said that firefighters were forced to combat the flames from a defensive position, and the building had become very unstable. The department activated the M.A.B.A.S. Box Alarm system to request additional support. Fire departments from Albany, Thomson, Erie and Morrison arrived on scene to assist. An engine from Prophetstown arrived later.

Ultimately, the 72-by-50-foot building was lost, as were its contents. A damage cost estimate is not available at this time.
