MORRISON, Ill. — On Friday, Whiteside County sheriff’s deputies arrested Barak Wierenga, 40, of Fulton, Ill., on a warrant for reckless homicide. The warrant results from the investigation of a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of Jessica M. Kuehl, 20, of Morrison, in April.

Kuehl was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Wierenga. The motorcycle was headed south on Hillside Road, approximately a half mile south of U.S. 30. Authorities say Wierenga lost control of the motorcycle and struck a mailbox, crossed a driveway and went into a ditch. The motorcycle continued rolling for several hundred feet, colliding with a tree and bursting into flames.

Both Kuehl and Wierenga were thrown from the motorcycle. Kuehl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wierenga is free on $10,000 bond.
