FULTON, Ill. — It’s official — de Immigrant, the Dutch windmill built in Fulton by Molema Millwrights, Bulder Projectbureau and Havenga Restoration contractors, has been chosen as one of the finalists in the “Seven Wonders of Illinois” sweepstakes, according to Heather Bennett, tourism director for the city.

The state contest is comprised of 12 attractions in each of seven regions around the state. So far, the windmill is a strong contender in the contest’s northern region. With public support in the form of votes on the Web site www.enjoyillinois.com/sevenwonders, Bennett hopes to see de Immigrant advance in the competition.

The winning Seven Wonders will be announced April 30, complete with themed travel packages and downloadable videos. In the meantime, Bennett encourages everyone to go to the Illinois Bureau of Tourism site and cast a vote.
