CLINTON — One of the most listened to groups on the radio from the mid-1960s through the early 1970s is coming to Riverboat Days 2006.

Dennis Duerling, who is executive secretary for RBD and oversees the entertainment component of the festival, announced that The Grass Roots Band will perform July 2 at this year’s Clinton Riverboat Days.

“Entertainment chairwoman Laura Shipman and her committee have been working on the entertainment lineup for RBD 2006 since early September. With the announcement of The Grass Roots as one of our five nights of top entertainment, people can certainly see her committee has done a fantastic job,” Duerling said. “As more contracts are signed and confirmed, future top notch entertainment will be announced.”

In the entire history of rock ‘n’ roll, only nine bands (including the Beatles) have charted more hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 than The Grass Roots. The Grass Roots hold the all time attendance record for a one-act, U.S. concert of 600,000 people on July 4, 1982, in Washington, D.C. The Grass Roots have sold more than 20 million records.

Included in those 20 million are hits “Midnight Confessions,” “Sooner or Later,” “Two Divided by Love,” “Temptation Eyes” and “Wait A Million Years,” just to name a few.

This year’s Riverboat Days will be a five-day event starting with the parade on June 30 and ending with the community fireworks on the evening of July 4.
