CLINTON — The Iowa Great Places task force is working with the Gateway Area Foundation and is issuing a challenge and an opportunity for everyone in the community to help purchase upgraded playground equipment and other equipment at Eagle Point Park.

Upgraded equipment in the park is needed in anticipation of increased visits and use of the park because of the other Iowa Great Place improvements.

Dan Blohm, chairman of the Clinton Iowa Great Places Task Force, said the task force leadership is in the process of securing at least $50,000 from a source to be named later. These funds will be applied as a local match for a grant application by the Gateway Area Foundation to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

This grant program is a dollar-for-dollar matching grant and the funds will be used for materials to construct new playground equipment at the park. The Iowa Department of Corrections will supply the labor to build the equipment so this is an excellent opportunity to leverage funds against more support to make a better place for our community, Blohm said.

“We are asking to the public and the business community to consider making a tax-deductible donation at any level to the Gateway Area Foundation prior to March 13 so we can add to the local match of at least $50,000 that could double if our application is successful,” Blohm said, adding the grant application is due in Des Moines on March 15.

Tax-deductible donations can be brought to the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce office or mailed to Box 1024, Clinton, IA 52733-1024.
