An inmate found hanging in the shower Sunday at the Clinton County Jail died Thursday.
Joshua Miller, 18, of Clinton, died Thursday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at Lemke Funeral Homes in Clinton.
Correctional officers discovered Miller hanging in a shower in one of the cellblocks at the jail around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers cut him down and administered first aid until paramedics from the Clinton Fire Department arrived and he was transported to Mercy Medical Center.
Miller was being held in the jail on warrants for failure to appear in court for hearings on charges of second-degree harassment and driving while suspended. Clinton police arrested him last Friday and he was served with warrants on third-degree burglary, forgery, identity theft, credit card fraud, burglary to a motor vehicle and fourth-degree theft later in the day after being booked into the jail.
An autopsy was planned for this morning.
The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Clinton County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
