SERVICES: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Church, Clinton. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
CLINTON — John F. Kenney, 81, of Clinton, died Wednesday at Mercy North Hospital.
Inurnment will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Kevin Cano, Sean, Scott, Shamus, Connor, Nolan, Evan and Trey Kenney.
He was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Lyons to Francis and Anna Dever Kenney. He married Ursula Weber on Sept. 13, 1947, in Appleton, Wis.
He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served in the Philippines. He was captured twice and was able to escape both times. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received on three different occasions.
He attended Clinton Community College.
He was a pipe fitter with E.I. DuPont for more than 34 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and AMVETS. He coached Little League Baseball and football and basketball at St. Irenaeus Grade School. He was a scorekeeper at St. Mary’s, Mater Dei and Prince of Peace high schools for many years.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Kathleen Cano of Clinton, Michael (Elise) Kenney of Mequon, Wis., Terry (Beth) Kenney of Clinton, Sheila (Ralph) Allocco of Tampa, Fla., and Brian (Karrie) Kenney of Clinton; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Henricksen of Clinton; one brother, Richard (Sharon) Kenney of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Henrietta Kenney of Rock Island and Ruth (Dennis) Emery of Hickory, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
