GOOSE LAKE — John G. Struve, age 65, of Goose Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19th, at St. Joseph Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton. Casket bearers will be Wayne Harmsen, Jack Merten, Terry Hoenicke, Kenneth Shelly, Robert Nowak and Harold Kampe. Honorary casket bearers will be Joe McGlynn, Ron Lippens, Gary McDaniel and Wayne Leonard.

John was born in Clinton on July 23, 1943, the son of Clarence and Edith Johnson Struve. He graduated from Clinton High School and from Clinton Community College. John served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. John married Carol Stahl on July 10, 1976, at the Preston United Methodist Church. He was a millwright with E.I. DuPont, retiring in 2001. After retiring, John worked with Harmsen Farms in Andover.

John was a member of the Preston United Methodist Church, AMVETS, Goose Lake Lions Club, the II Antique Auto Club and a former Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren canoeing and biking. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

John is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Brenda Struve of Marion, IA; a son, Jay (Nicole) Struve of Independence, IA; two grandchildren, Grace and Joshua; a sister, Janice (Robert) Wede of Fulton, IL; and two nieces, Marcia (Todd) Baldridge and Robin (Ryan) Mattke.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Elizabeth Wede Creger.
