MAQUOKETA — John M. Ringen, 67, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, March 25, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Preston, Iowa, with military honors. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a Christian wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Visitation also will be held on Monday one hour before service time at the church. Memorials are preferred.

John Michael Ringen was born May 14, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Elwood and Velma (Scholtes) Ringen. He graduated from Preston High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He married Sarah Ann “Sally” McCarthy in January of 1961 in Ft. Hood, Texas. She died on July 28, 1977. He married Lorayne Olsen on December 22, 2000, in Preston, Iowa.

He worked as a technician at the Preston Telephone Company for 38 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, and the Maquoketa Eagles Club. He was an avid Hawkeye and Bears fan, and enjoyed golfing, bowling and cribbage. He was manager for the Maquoketa Bowling Association and 2nd vice president of the State Bowling Association. His first love was his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lorayne Ringen of Maquoketa; his children, Michael (Darci) Ringen of San Antonio, Texas, Bryan (Lisa) Ringen of Iowa City, Paula (Jack) Wenzel of Clinton, LaRae Maggard of Blue Grass, Missouri, Randy Olsen of DeWitt, and Michael Olsen of Maquoketa; 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; his mother, Velma Ringen of Preston; one sister, Jolene (William) Ketelsen of DeWitt; and one nephew, Seth Ketelsen of Waukesha, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, David, in 1995.
