Clinton County sheriff’s officials have released the names of two adults and one child who died in a car-versus-semi accident Friday.
The sheriff’s office identified the deceased today as Devon Antwon Mapp, 30, of Minneapolis, who recently moved to Clinton; Brittany McGee, 24, of Clinton and formerly of Minneapolis, and Da’ Marions LaMont Latez Mapp, 5 months old. Devon Mapp was driving, while McGee was in the backseat with Da’ Marions, who was sitting in a rear-facing car seat.
According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, officers found a southbound passenger car, a blue 1998 Saturn owned by Gabrielle Goudy, of Clinton, had collided head on with a northbound, white 1998 International semi tractor-trailer.
An invesitgation revealed that the blue Saturn was traveling south on Iowa 67 and passing another car on a hill marked with a yellow “No Passing Zone.”
The Clinton County Medical Examiner’s office listed the probable cause of death as traumatic injury from a motor vehicle collision due to a head-on crash. Contributing factors were speed, force of impact and size of the vehicles.
The driver of the semi, Jeff Rogis of Miles, was not injured in the collision.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
