CLINTON — A Low Moor boy is dead today after a shooting incident in that community.

Blake Hargrave, 7, of 405 Third St., Low Moor, was hunting rabbits in a field behind his home with an older sibling and the sibling’s friend Wednesday when Blake was shot in the eye with a pellet gun, Clinton County sheriff’s deputies report.

Blake, the son of Jim Hargrave of Clinton and Julie Hargrave of Low Moor, was taken to Genesis Medical Center–DeWitt and then transferred to Genesis East in Davenport. He later was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was pronounced dead there Thursday.

Clinton County authorities were notified of the death by the Johnson County medical examiner.

Blake was a student at Camanche Elementary School. Counselors from the Area Education Agency are available in all classrooms to help the students cope and will continue to work with the students today.

“It was a very sad day in all three schools,” said school district official Gwen Hickey, indicating that Blake’s older siblings attended Camanche Middle School and High School.
