DAVENPORT — Clinton LumberKings pitchers Kasey Kiker and Joshua Lueke postponed the Swing of the Quad Cities’ Fourth of July fireworks until after the game Wednesday.

Kiker and Lueke combined on a four-hit shutout as Clinton snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-0 win Wednesday.

The L-Kings lost the first game of the four-game home and home series, letting a 5-0 lead slip away in a 7-6 loss in 10 innings Tuesday.

Kiker (3-2) won for the first time since June 11. He allowed just three hits and piled up seven strikeouts in six innings to lower his ERA to 2.25. The 19-year-old southpaw tossed six scoreless frames in his last start on Friday.

Lueke allowed a hit and whiffed three over the final three frames for his first career save.

Clinton provided some early fireworks Wednesday, doing all of its scoring in the first two innings.

The L-Kings erupted for three runs in the first inning, all with two outs. John Whittleman drew a walk to get things started. He moved to second on an errant pickoff throw by Quad Cities catcher Christian Reyes.

Chad Tracy followed with an RBI single. K.C. Herren then singled, moving Tracy to second. Marcus Lemon also singled, plating Tracy and moving Herren to second. Mauro Gomez then reached on an infield hit, scoring Herren to make it 3-0.

Clinton’s Craig Gentry, who just returned from the disabled list, made it 4-0 when he belted a solo home run with one out in the second inning.

Tuesday, the L-Kings jumped in front 5-0 with a five-run fourth inning.

Whittleman singled to start the inning. He moved to second on a groundout by Tracy. Herren then laced a triple to right, plating Whittleman.

Lemon followed with an infield hit, scoring Herren. Manny Pina singled to left and Lemon moved around to third. Pina took second on the play as the throw went to third.

Gomez, who was 3-for-5 in the game, then cracked a two-run double. David Paisano (3-for-4 in the game) singled and Gomez moved to third. Gentry reached on a fielder’s choice with Gomez thrown out at home.

Paisano scored on an errant pickoff throw by Quad Cities pitcher Brandon Dickson.

The Swing scored once in the fifth inning before jumping in front 6-5 with their own five-run inning in the sixth. Jose Ramirez’s two-run homer was the key blow of the inning.

Clinton pulled even with a run in the seventh. Paisano and Gentry singled to start the inning. Jose Vallejo reached on a fielder’s choice as Paisano was forced out at third.

The runners moved to second and third on a flyout by Whittleman. Gentry scored on a wild pitch.

Quad Cities won the game on Jamie Landin’s one-out RBI single in the 10th. It was the Swing’s third straight single.

L-Kings starting pitcher Zach Phillips allowed five runs on five hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Reliever Brett Zamzow allowed a run on two hits over an inning-and-a-third.

Brennan Garr tossed a shutout frame in the eighth. Tim Gudex (2-3) took the loss, allowing a run on three hits in an inning-and-a-third.

The series shifts to Clinton tonight. Game time is 7 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled after the game.

LumberKing Note ... Center fielder and leadoff hitter Craig Gentry has returned to the LumberKings after spending 28 days on the disabled list with a knee sprain, suffered on May 30.

Gentry hit .271 with 12 doubles, two home runs, 36 runs scored and 21 steals in 48 games prior to the injury. The knee sprain was sustained in a collision with Quad Cities catcher Chris Grossman in a play at the plate.

Gentry again wears No. 5.
