MORRISON, Ill. — Marvin Hamstra, 97, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died March 9, 2009, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo, pastor of Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Reformed Church Radio Broadcast Fund and Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison.

He was born February 23, 1912, in Ustick Township, IL, to Dewey and Johanna (Bielema) Hamstra.

He was educated in rural Whiteside County Grade Schools.

He married Inez Tenboer on July 11, 1934, in Morrison; she died April 7, 1963. He then married Ruth (Eissens) Drolema on April 16, 1976, in Morrison; she survives.

He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison area until 1964. He was later employed by the Erie Elevator in Erie, IL, and Whiteside Farm Services in Lyndon, IL, retiring in 1977.

Marvin was a current member of Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. He was a former member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, and also served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Ruth (Tony) Boom of Moline, IL; two sons, Gerald (Esther) Hamstra of Morrison, IL, and Keith (Joyce) Hamstra of Morrison, IL; one stepdaughter, Carolyn (Arlyn) Huizenga of Morrison, IL; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Boonstra of Morrison, IL; two brothers, Ralph Hamstra of Morrison, IL, and Donald Hamstra of Morrison, IL; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; one stepson, Robert Drolema; and one sister, Alma Meinema.
