MORRISON, Ill. — Mary E. Pessman, 92, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, Ill., and formerly of Fulton, Ill., died Monday, March 16, 2009, at the nursing home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Spring Valley Reformed Church, Fulton, Ill., with the Rev. Scott Bonestroo, pastor of Spring Valley Reformed Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton, Ill. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Spring Valley Reformed Church and Resthave Nursing Home.

She was born September 7, 1916, in rural Fulton, Ill., to John J. and Grace (Vanderschaaf) Bielema.

She attended Spring Valley Grade School and graduated from Fulton High School in 1933.

She married Corneil E. Pessman on February 23, 1937, in Fulton, Ill.; he survives.

Mary farmed with her husband in the rural Fulton area her whole life. They retired and moved into Fulton in 1979.

She was a member of Spring Valley Reformed Church where she held many offices in the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society. She taught Sunday school for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and was an avid reader. Mary also enjoyed gardening. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, as well as her church family.

Survivors include her husband, Corneil of Morrison, Ill.; one daughter, Donna (Joe) Haan of Fulton, Ill.; two sons, Jim (Sue) Pessman of Fulton, Ill., and Laverne (Pat) Pessman of Fulton, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Steve) Heun, Luanne Smith, Scott (Sandy) Haan, Steve (Sharon) Haan, Michael Pessman, Mark (Jill) Pessman, Jason (Amy) Pessman, Joshua (Maria) Pessman; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Miller, Alta Pessman and Minnie Wiebenga; and two brothers, Jay Bielema and one in infancy.
