Residents in Clinton and Jackson counties are being asked to properly dispose of unwanted medications this September.
The medicine cabinet clean-out event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17, according to the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency. Residents will be able to drop off old or unwanted medications at several locations in both counties. In Clinton County people can take medications to the Alliant Energy Field parking lot, the Clinton County Fairgrounds in DeWitt, the Camanche Police Department and Faith Lutheran Church in Calamus. Jackson County locations include the Jackson County Senior Center in Maquoketa, the Bellevue Fire Station and Sabula City Hall.
People are encouraged to dispose of old medication to prevent someone being confused and mis-medicating, people abusing drugs or the accidental poisoning of children and pets.
People are asked not to flush medication down the drain or toilet because it can pollute waterways and groundwater.
The event is free.
No sharps or business waste will be accepted.
