DEWITT — Nellie Mae (Mrs. Harry) Jacobsen, 92, DeWitt, died Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in Schultz Funeral Home Chapel, DeWitt. The Rev. Jeff Wartgow will officiate with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Nellie was born July 23, 1916, in DeWitt to Thomas A. Carstensen and Celia (Phillips) Carstensen. She was a graduate of DeWitt High School. Nellie married Harry Moritz Jacobsen, October 7, 1936, in Clinton, Iowa. Together, they worked a farm on the west side of DeWitt, for some 60 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Marian Giddens, DeWitt, and Janis Gauthier and her husband, Barrie, Downey, California; granddaughters, Kimberly (Curt) Young, Jennifer (Steve) Reid and Traci Gauthier; eight stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandson, Connor Reid; two brothers, William Carstensen and his wife, Laura, and Raymond Carstensen and his wife, Virginia, all of DeWitt.

Preceding Nellie in death were her husband, Harry, on April 6, 2003; her parents; a sister, Minnie Fell; and a son-in-law, Campbell Giddens.

Memorials in lieu of other expressions of sympathy may be sent to First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, or a favorite charity.
