Now that the county has the keys and ownership of the former Candlelight property in DeWitt, more progress is being made on plans for a new Clinton County DeWitt annex building.

Sheriff Rick Lincoln and Maintenance Coordinator Rick Laurion attended Wednesday’s Clinton County Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss hiring an architect to design the new building. Lincoln and Laurion are working on a proposal for plans, and Laurion has offered his expertise on various issues, such as building codes and regulations, that have to be considered before sending a proposal out for architects.

The board discussed how and from where to find architects for consideration. Supervisor Jill Davisson asked if there are many architectural firms in Clinton County. County Auditor Eric Van Lancker said the request for proposal process is not as strict as some other bid processes. He said the county can ask around for architects. Lincoln said he is sure once it is known they are looking for an architect, people will contact them. Chairman John Staszewski said they wanted to give Lincoln and Laurion the direction to go ahead so they could get moving on the project. Davisson moved for the county to seek proposals from an architectural firm for the purpose of getting a plan for the new DeWitt building. The board approved this motion.

Lincoln and Laurion will return to the board when they have more information, seeking approval for any plan.
