A long dry spell ended on Friday with some much needed rain for the area.
Jim Blaess, an official weather observer for the National Weather Service, said over the course of three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the area received 5.43 inches of rain.
On Saturday, Blaess said 3.38 inches of rainfall was recorded on Saturday, which was the most precipitation received in 24 hours for July since July 8, 1986.
On that date back in 1986, 3.67 inches of rainfall was recorded.
The monthly total for July is now 5.99 with one week left in the month. Normal rainfall for July is 3.69.
