CLINTON — The Camanche, Clinton and DeWitt police departments, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Dept. of Transportation and the Iowa State Patrol teamed up to conduct a Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Project on Iowa 30 at three specific locations based upon accident data and citizen concerns.

Eighteen officers were involved in this multi-agency project that targeted seatbelt compliance, alcohol violations and other moving violations. Communication support was provided by Clinton County 911 communications.

Funding for this project was made possible through highway safety grants from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. The following statistics reflect the combined enforcement activities for those six agencies involved in this highway safety project — OWI: two citations; Seatbelt violations: 32 citations, 12 warnings; Child restraint violations: two citations, one warning; Speed violations: 30 citations, 25 warnings; Driving without a license: three citations; Stop sign/traffic light violations: one citation, three warnings; Driving with a suspendd or revoked license: one citation; Registration violations: eight citations, four warnings; Dark windows: one citation; Equipment violations: two citations, 35 warnings; No proof of insurance: 10 citations; Move over violations: four citations; Other traffic violations: two citations, 22 warnings.

Other procedures conducted: Field sobriety tests/PBT’s used — 10; MCSAP inspections — four; Commercial vehicle out of service — one; Commerical driver out of service — two; Loud stereo/exhaust violations — two; Arrest warrants served — two.
