CLINTON — Robert L. Banse, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Bickford of Clinton. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Prince of Peace Church in Clinton, with Father Tony Herold officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons, William Banse, Joseph Banse, Robert Woodard, Richard Howard, Thomas Howe, Adam Murdock, Davey Phillips and Dan Woodard. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Susan Banse, Kathleen Howard, Christine Howard, Laura Howe, Jessica Larsen, Jennifer Banse, Michelle Banse, Ginger Emerson and Dawn Murdock. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Cemetery in Clinton.

Robert Lewis Banse was born April 10, 1924, in Oak Park, IL, the son of Roland Henry and Maria Jane (Burrowes) Banse. He was a corporal in the U.S. Air Corp serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1942 through 1946. He married Helen Leone Sullivan on February 1, 1947, in Whiteside County, IL. She passed away on September 5, 1997. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and the Blind Veterans Association. He retired in 1979 from DuPont after 35 years of service.

Survivors include Robert “Jerry” (Lettie) Banse of Fulton, IL, Timothy Banse of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Margaret (Robert) Howard of Fort Lupton, CO, Elizabeth (Larry) Howe of Clinton, IA, Mrs. Noreen Banse, Kay Wesson; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Helen; his son, Michael; his brothers, Roland and Charles; and his sister, Virginia. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society.
