DEWITT — Robert L. Christensen, 86, DeWitt, formerly of Goose Lake, died Friday afternoon, March 20, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

He was born December 16, 1922, in Grand Mound, the son of Ivan B. and Ruth D. (Farber) Christensen. Bob married Esther Schultz January 29, 1944, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation. They resided at Goose Lake prior to moving to DeWitt. Bob farmed and sold Farm Bureau Insurance for 23 years.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake, the Masonic Lodge, and the Lions Club from which he received the Warren Coleman Award. In his early years, Bob enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Sandra Christensen, Altoona; daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Don Hogenson, Bettendorf, Jill and Kevin Davisson, Grand Mound, Jane and Jim Zane, Donnellson, Rebecca and Ron Wilhoit, Troy, Missouri, and Bobbi and Steve Kelley, DeWitt; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Joanne Christensen, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Loren and Mary Ann Christensen, Eagle, Idaho, Doris Christensen, Clinton and Vivian Mowry, Amana.

Preceding Bob in death were his wife, Esther, on November 2, 2006; his parents; an infant grandson; and a brother, Victor.

The family will receive friends at Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the church with the Rev. Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Burial will be in Lost Nation Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lost Nation Cemetery, Leader Dogs For The Blind or the church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jeff, Wayne and Eric Hogenson, Scott Souder, Travis and Tyler Davisson, Andy Christensen, Robert Wilhoit and Bryce and Luke Kelley. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Julie Lundin, Erin Witt, Elizabeth Christensen, Keri and Kaci Wilhoit.
