He served in the US Army During WWII in Italy and North Africa. He married Cecilia “Kriss” Krzywicki on February 17, 1946 in Braddock, PA. She preceded him in death in September of 1985. Bob grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa working with his siblings, Jim, Bill and Lois, in the family Ice and Ice Cream business founded by his father, Ed. Immediately following the repeal of prohibition, the company diversified, becoming one of the first wholesale beer operations in the state of Iowa, with locations throughout eastern Iowa. Bob left the family business in Cedar Rapids to pursue a sales position in Madison, Wisconsin. He later owned and operated a farm in Miles, Iowa for over a decade. His father and brother, Bill, asked Bob to rejoin them in the family business in the late 1960’s which now solely operated as a beer distributor representing Schmidt Brewing and Anheuser-Busch with operations in Maquoketa, Clinton and Dubuque, Iowa. He and his family eventually relocated to Dubuque in 1971. Bob semi-retired in 1989, but was always available to provide guidance and leadership to his two sons who run the family business today. Bob and his wife Kriss enjoyed their winters together in Arizona until her passing. Bob was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed watching sports, CNN, and “Steinfeld”. Bob was a member of Resurrection Church, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Dubuque Shooting Society, and Thunder Hills Country Club. He loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest throughout his time with us.
