DES MOINES — A second Clinton man has claimed a large lottery prize one day after another Clinton man claimed a big Powerball prize.

Charles Allesee, 66, of Clinton claimed the jackpot for Iowa’s Feb. 21 $100,000 Cash Game drawing.

He purchased the winning ticket at Kwik Star, 803 Seventh Ave. in Camanche and claimed his prize at the Iowa Lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Allesee’s wife, Julie, works in the same office building as Ed O’Neill, the Clinton man who claimed an $800,000 Powerball prize with his wife, Diane, on Monday. Allesee wonders if there is something about this building that makes it especially lucky. He had been playing the same set of numbers for seven or eight years.

“I thought, ‘Someday (my numbers have) got to come up.’ I went in (to the store to have the ticket checked) and they said, ‘The ticket (doesn’t) register.’ And I said, ’Well, it’s probably turned over,’” he said. “Then they (gave) it to another girl and then this receipt came up. They said, ‘You’ve won big. Do you know how much?’ and I said, ‘No.’ And then they showed me… I just almost started crying. I guess I did… My legs shook.”

Allesee said now that he’s won, his wife has given him a new set of numbers to play — numbers that have to do with their grandchildren. The Allesees will use the prize money to take a Disney cruise next December. They will take their three children and six grandchildren with them.

The winning $100,000 Cash Game numbers for the Feb. 21 drawing were: 1-6-16-23-30. Winning numbers may be checked by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winning numbers may also be checked at the lottery Web site at
