CLINTON — Students in Jackson County are eager to take Clinton Community College classes in the new CCC Maquoketa Center, opening in summer 2009.

The center is located directly northeast of Maquoketa High School. The building will house two computer labs, a meeting room, four classrooms and additional lab space.

As the Maquoketa Center construction progresses, students are encouraged to apply for scholarships available through the Paul B. Sharar Foundation. Founded in 1966, the Sharar Foundation is named for the first Dean of CCC. It was Sharar’s vision to offer education to every person, creating a better life for the students and their families.

That vision continues today as Sharar Foundation Scholarships totaling nearly $140,000 were awarded to students in 2008-2009.

April 1 is the deadline for Sharar Foundation Scholarship applications for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Many Sharar Foundation Scholarships are specific to the Maquoketa area including the Christoffersen Scholarships, Maquoketa Area Scholarship, the Edward L. Tubbs Scholarship, the Maquoketa State Bank Scholarship and the Pacific Coast Feather Scholarship.

Students must complete the Sharar Foundation Scholarship application by April 1.

The application is available at Clinton Community College, online at www.eicc.edu or by calling the Sharar Foundation office at 244-7040.

Included in the plan for the new Maquoketa Center is a full information technology program for those interested in the computer industry.

CCC also provides adult education, continuing education and business and industry services in the Maquoketa area.
