A man remains hospitalized after a shooting Wednesday night. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., officers from the Clinton Police Department responded to Mercy Medical Center following a report of a male subject seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

According to a release from the police department, the subject underwent surgery overnight.

The victim told officers he was shot while in the alley between the 400 block of Fifth and Sixth avenues south at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. Police officers responded to the location and processed the suspected crime scene.

Neighborhood residents reported hearing what they believed to be a gunshot.

The case remains under investigation by the Clinton Police Department.
