CLINTON — Join the Stop the Hate Walk, sponsored by the Clinton Peace Coalition, beginning 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Clinton Community College and ending at Ashford University followed by a short program.

Those wishing to make posters to carry during the walk can meet at 5 p.m. at Clinton Community College. Materials will be supplied.

Members of the Clinton High School Band will provide music as part of the program at Clinton Community College and the percussion section will beat out cadence for the walk.

Upon arriving at Ashford, walkers will be greeted by the Ashford University choir.

Organizers are looking forward to the walk as it’s an opportunity for all to come together to celebrate who we are, individually and collectively.

While walking together against bias, bigotry and racism and for peace and non-violence we are honoring those who are victims and pledging ourselves to do the work required to make our homes, city and world peaceful, and to demonstrate support for people who are attacked because of their race, gender, age, religion, nationality or disability.

The Stop the Hate Walk is being planned by the Clinton Peace Coalition which was organized in 2003, evolving from the Stop the Hate Walk and YWCA Week Without Violence Committees.

It consists of representatives from Clinton Community College, Ashford University, YWCA of Clinton, New Directions, Sisters of St. Francis and other individuals for whom the promotion of peace is a passion.

Our community’s first Stop the Hate Walk began in 1998 and was spearheaded by Alma Mariano.

For more information or to be included as a sponsor for this year’s Stop the Hate Walk, contact Lori Freudenberg at the YWCA, 242-2110.
