CEDAR RAPIDS —There will be an informal homecoming ceremony today for approximately 20 soldiers from Companies A, B and C of the Iowa National Guard’s 234th Signal Battalion.

These soldiers were selected from three companies of the 234th Signal Battalion — Cedar Rapids (Co. A), Clinton (Co. B), and Marshalltown (Co. C).

Local soldiers include Spc. Terry Evers Jr. of Camanche, Spc. Terry Eaker and Spc. Brian Powell of Clinton and Spc. Lucas Gorney of Maquoketa.

The ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the passenger terminal at Eastern Iowa Regional Airport, 2515 Arthur Collins Pkwy. SW, Cedar Rapids. Local community officials and Iowa National Guard leadership will participate in the ceremony and the public is invited to attend.

The 234th Signal Battalion was mobilized in January at Fort Bliss, Texas, with additional training at Fort Hood, Texas, before departing for Iraq. Once there, the troops provided communications support to coalition forces. The soldiers arrived back in the United States in mid-November, and have been outprocessing from active duty at Fort Hood.
