For the first time ever, each county in the Clinton Herald coverage area plans to post election results online.

Jackson County joins the other three Gateway area counties with a new Web site that auditor’s office officials hope to have up and running by tonight.

No results will be posted until after the polls close — 7 p.m. in Illinois and 9 p.m. in Iowa — and results will be updated throughout the evening until all precincts are reported. Vote totals will remain unofficial until election officials in each county complete a formal canvass.

Also, note that each county will have just the results for its voters. For results of races that incorporate more than one county, and complete local election coverage, pick up a copy of Wednesday’s Clinton Herald.

The Herald will not provide election results via telephone tonight. Newsroom staff will be occupied contacting candidates for reactions.
