CLINTON — The Clinton City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. today. It will be televised on Mediacom channel 19.

The first item on the agenda is a public hearing regarding the at-large council vacancy created by the resignation of Ed O’Neill, who accepted a job with the Clinton Area Development Corp. The hearing will establish a list of candidates for the vacancy, to be filled by appointment at the Feb. 14 council meeting.

To date, two people have come forward as a candidate. Mark S. Vulich, 572 Worth Court, contacted the city clerk’s office on Friday about his intent to serve. James L. Clark, 1008 S. Ninth St., filed his notice Wednesday.

After tonight’s hearing, the council will only be able to appoint people on the candidate list.

The council also will approve a contract with Downing Architects of Bettendorf for design services for police and fire facility needs. The cost will not exceed $30,500 for the police work or $28,700 for fire projects.
