Authorities have taken a teenage boy into custody on suspicion of shooting to death a 37-year-old woman in northern Iowa.

Mitchell County Sheriff Curt Younker said in a news release Monday that deputies were called to a residence about eight miles west of Osage a little after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers found Gretchen Crooks dead inside the house.

Younker says an autopsy determined that she died of several gunshot wounds.

The 13-year-old boy has been taken to the North Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Waterloo.

The sheriff didn't release any other details about the shooting. Younker says he won't release the boy's name because of the boy's age. Younker also says he won't comment on whether Crooks knew the boy.
