CLINTON – Behind 27 points from junior Anthony Woods and a season-high 19 points by junior DeAndre Lowery Jr., the 23rd-ranked Ashford University men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 93-60 win over Faith Baptist Bible College on Friday night.

Damon Overton of East Moline, Ill., added 18 points for the Saints (10-3), who shot 49.3 percent (34-for-69) from the floor.

Ashford took control from the opening tip, outscoring the Eagles 12-2 over the game’s first four minutes. The lead grew to as many as 14 points in the first half, and the Saints held a 43-31 lead at the halftime horn. Woods paced the Ashford attack, dropping 22 points in the first 20 minutes.

The purple and gold continued to build on their lead in the second half thanks to a 15-5 run that made it a 60-36 game with 15 minutes left. AU cruised to the win from there, thanks to an 18-for-36 effort from the floor in the second half.

AU concluded the game by holding the Eagles to 37.5 percent (21-for-56) from the floor while knocking down 31.8 percent (7-for-22) of its 3-point attempts.

Committing just eight turnovers, Ashford outrebounded the Eagles 43-37 while dishing out 16 assists.

Aaron Leistkow led the Eagles with 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting.

The Saints will play their final home game of the 2013 calendar year at 7 p.m. today, when they wrap up a four-game homestand against the Blugolds of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
