Rebels take control in 2nd quarter

---- — PRESTON — Easton Valley tried to hold on to its lead for as long as possible, but the Rebels girls took control of the basketball game midway through the second quarter and never surrendered that lead in defeating the River Hawks 58-42.

Hannah Bormann led the charge for the River Hawks, scoring nine points in each half for a total of 18 points.

Easton Valley scored 18 in the first quarter, but after that, the River Hawks never got above a total of nine in a quarter until the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, once the Rebels took control after taking their first lead near the 3-minute mark in the second quarter, they scored and put up a lot of points.

In the second quarter, Northeast scored 15 points before putting up 14 in the third quarter and then another 13 in the final quarter.

Northeast had three players score in double figures — Addie Oberman led with 14 points and the duo of Breanne Butler and Alleenah Marcucci each scored 10.

Fouls were very frequent in this game with 49 total called and both teams shooting a combined 40-for-65 at the free-throw line.
